week 2 song

When I had you to myself
I didn’t want you around
Those pretty faces always made you
Stand out in a crowd
But someone picked you from the bunch
One glance was all it took
Now it’s much too late for me
To take second look

Oh baby give me one more chance
To show you that I love you
Won’t you please send me back in your heart

Oh darlin’ I was blind to let you go
But now since I see you in his arms
I want you back
Yes I do now
I want you back
Ooh ooh baby
Yeah yeah, naw

Trying to live without your love
Is one long sleepless night
Let me show you girl
That I know wrong from right

Every street you walk on
I leave tear stains on the ground
Following the girl
I didn’t even want around
Oh baby give me one more chance
To show you that I love you
Won’t you please send me back in your heart

Abuh buh buh buh
All I want!
Abuh buh buh buh
All I need!
Abuh buh buh buh

“Dear Mama”

You are appreciated

[Verse One: 2Pac]

When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time, I never thought I’d see her face
Ain’t a woman alive that could take my mama’s place
Suspended from school; and scared to go home, I was a fool
with the big boys, breakin all the rules
I shed tears with my baby sister
Over the years we was poorer than the other little kids
And even though we had different daddy’s, the same drama
When things went wrong we’d blame mama
I reminice on the stress I caused, it was hell
Huggin on my mama from a jail cell
And who’d think in elementary?
Heeey! I see the penitentiary, one day
And runnin from the police, that’s right
Mama catch me, put a whoopin to my backside
And even as a crack fiend, mama
You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
for a woman it ain’t easy tryin to raise a man
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it
There’s no way I can pay you back
But the plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus: Reggie Green & “Sweet Franklin” w/ 2Pac]

Lady…
Don’t cha know we love ya? Sweet lady
Dear mama
Place no one above ya, sweet lady
You are appreciated
Don’t cha know we love ya?

[second and third chorus, “And dear mama” instead of “Dear mama”]

[Verse Two: 2Pac]

Now ain’t nobody tell us it was fair
No love from my daddy cause the coward wasn’t there
He passed away and I didn’t cry, cause my anger
wouldn’t let me feel for a stranger
They say I’m wrong and I’m heartless, but all along
I was lookin for a father he was gone
I hung around with the Thugs, and even though they sold drugs
They showed a young brother love
I moved out and started really hangin
I needed money of my own so I started slangin
I ain’t guilty cause, even though I sell rocks
It feels good puttin money in your mailbox
I love payin rent when the rent’s due
I hope ya got the diamond necklace that I sent to you
Cause when I was low you was there for me
And never left me alone because you cared for me
And I could see you comin home after work late
You’re in the kitchen tryin to fix us a hot plate
Ya just workin with the scraps you was given
And mama made miracles every Thanksgivin
But now the road got rough, you’re alone
You’re tryin to raise two bad kids on your own
And there’s no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus]

[Verse Three: 2Pac]

Pour out some liquor and I reminsce, cause through the drama
I can always depend on my mama
And when it seems that I’m hopeless
You say the words that can get me back in focus
When I was sick as a little kid
To keep me happy there’s no limit to the things you did
And all my childhood memories
Are full of all the sweet things you did for me
And even though I act craaazy
I gotta thank the Lord that you made me
There are no words that can express how I feel
You never kept a secret, always stayed real
And I appreciate, how you raised me
And all the extra love that you gave me
I wish I could take the pain away
If you can make it through the night there’s a brighter day
Everything will be alright if ya hold on
It’s a struggle everyday, gotta roll on
And there’s no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus]

Sweet lady
And dear mama

Dear Mama,

i remember back in the day with my birth mama

Glenda was her name, crack was her game & nothing could stop her.

i was 2 & abused , i thought no one would have me

that was until i got counciling & adopted by Abby

it was hard getting girls because im dislecsic

because teh abusers put a plastic bag over my head i was always messed with

went to cutter high school & was dissed by everybody.

but i was always complimented by my mother Abby

and because of the neglect that Glenda left me,

It was hard but when i needed advice on love i went to my friends Georgia to help me

and though its hard im gonna make it

what i have to say to Abby is thank you for everything you gave me.

Music

What is your earliest memory of music?

-“I was 2 years old. The songs were from off of sesame street.  I do not remember the title but i remember the words. This is how it goes: monomona do-do da do-do do,x3. It was nothing but a red puppet with to girls singing.”

What has influenced your taste in music

-“Hip hop because it made people bounce, R & B because it calmed people down, soul because it let people feel what they were feeling, same with jazz,& it put me to sleep, & rap because it brings out my along with others creativity.”

Who are your favorite bands

-“All the bands I liked, if I liked any, all broke up. Their old school too. One new school i can think of is black- Eyed Peas. They are taking over new hip hop and rap. They let people know you need to go hard or go home in the industry.”

How do you use music in your everyday life?

-“It helps me concentrate during class work, it calms me down when im upset or when im ready to go to sleep, It helps if i quote something, and of course parties/get togethers. I am music…As music is me.”

Epigraph

The topic i choose is lucky days. thats because i like surpises, and good ones at that! One Sunday, I went to my Church. And for the 1rst time I recieve the chance to give in chararity. I didn’t want to give in public, so I went to the back.

After I signed some papers & donated, I asked a friend to take me home. Before we actually got to my house, we stopped by Circle K. When i walked in, the 1rst thing i see sitting by the cash register is a 20 dollar bill and a 5 dollar bill. It was out in the open & noticeable. Surprisingly, no one seen it but me.

If you heard me read this yesterday, read it again. It’s suppose to let you know to give every once in a while. Not for the benefit, but from the heart. And you will benefit.

Wait, quick change…My subject now is on food! Chocolate give me this sensationally uplifting feeling. Like the Snickers commercial says, “your not you when your hungry!” I can be me with a good piece of chocolate. It’s always a king sized cookie filled with caramel, stacked with nuts, topped with milk chocolate melting in your mouth. With out food, it’s another dull day.
